Have you tried to recycle a
cycle lately?
It’s not easy in Barnet.
Bruce Standing took his to
the Summers Lane amenity
site, but they just
wanted him to put it in the ‘metals’ skip.
He thought this seemed a waste so he took the bicycle back home.
Bruce has found a shop willing to
re-condition old cycles and send them to
Africa through Re-Cycle, a charity committed to providing cheap, sustainable transport to African countries
(www.re-cycle.org) .
Old iron or vital transport?
Details of the shop Bruce found are :- Rayleigh cycle shop at 8 Bittacy Hill, Mill Hill, NW7 1LB, tel 020 8346 5784. The shop is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but open Thursday - Monday.

Bruce said “I took the bike to the shop and received a friendly reception from the staff.”

Bruce has now contacted Barnet Council to ask if cycles taken to Summers Lane can be sorted and sent to Re-cycle.
